The Company
Rapid Die & Molding Company, with
over sixty years of innovative developments in the Loudspeaker Industry, has led with
dependable components of many types and has continuously increased the variety
of tooling for its products. There are several thousand sets of tools, which
can make tens of thousands of different dimensional combinations. Coupled with
a large variety of paper stocks, surround material and treatments; hundreds of
thousands of distinctly different cone and spider products are possible.
RDM's steady growth, marked by many plant expansions, started with the purchase
of a building in Schiller Park Illinois in the late 1940's. In 1953, a two story building in Cassville Wisconsin
was purchased. RDM continued to grow with the purchase of another facility in
Cassville in 1962, and in 1965. Additions to the main location in Cassville were in 1967,
1978, 1985, and 1992. In 1973 a location was constructed in Hamburg, Arkansas.
RDM has now consolidated its operations into one location in Cassville, WI.
The Engineering and Production specialist at RDM have developed methods and
equipment of new and improved types, which were adopted elsewhere in the industry,
such as:
- Polyurethane foam surrounds, conceived and commercially developed in the mid-1960s.
- Automatic cone and body molding and drying machinery for higher production rates and lower production cost.
- RDM plastiseal treatment for cloth surrounds and soft tweeter diaphragms, providing sealing , damping and efficiency as well as uniformity of treatment.
